School Tid Bits - Oldies

I I hadn't given birth to her, I would wonder if she was actually my child .  She, with very little help, memorized The Pledge of Allienge, The Star Spangled Banner, the States and their capitals, The Gettysburg Address, the presidents (in order), and The Preamble.  The fifth graders have a chance to earn The Great American Award at her school and she did it.   

A little twist on the field day activities . . . 

The Easter/Spring classroom party for Olivia was a fun one.  I wasn't in the classroom near as much this year with both the girls since we were living in Orem and it was killing me, but I'm glad I got to do a few parties for both of them.  

And nothing to do with school . . . but I didn't want to forget the Bunnicula rolls my mom made for Easter.   Pinterest Fail.  

Addie and Allie working on their store for the 5th grade business fair.  They sold popcorn, raffled off a Miche bag, threw darts at One Direction, sold sherbet floats and they ended up the store that was in second place for most money made.  They were just under what the group of 5 people together made.   Kind of a fun project.  

Shaved Ice $1

Living at Banna and Branda's has it's perks . . . one being Shaved Ice whenever we want.  

It's kind of a nightly thing around here and it never gets old.  

Banna helped the kids set up a Shaved Ice business this summer.  

There's that "smile" again . . . 

And it's been a smashing success with the neighbors of all ages.  

Banna taught them to split the income, pay Branda for supplies and save some to re-invest in the business.

Daddy Daughter Dance 2014

The theme was just "dress nice" this year and we went with it. 

Thank goodness, it's still just a date night with Dad.  Time is passing too quickly.   

 

Take Luck

Again, we were unable to catch a leprechaun, but we did try . . .

 

 

He left us gold coins, leprechaun glitter and green milk . . .

 

 

Rather than trap the lephrachan . . . we've always gone with an inviting, comfortable living area that is hopefully enticing enough to make him stay.

Oh cuties . . . maybe next year. 

Girls Trip

The California Cheer Competition was a girls trip this year . . . and we lived it up since it seems so cheap to only be paying for 3 people :)

Swig closed like 10 minutes before we got there so we had to drive to the other side of town to Dutchman's for pink cookies and coke.  But it was well worth our time when they voluntarily put more frosting on our cookies.
 

Then we hit up Vegas.  And by "hit up" Vegas I mean that we checked in late, we took a closely supervised walk to the pool and around a little, and then we got up and left by 6 am.  Just livin' it up really.

 

We made it to Anaheim and headed right to Disney.  Where I did some quick math  -  I could save $180 if I bought yearly passes for me and the girls since we're coming back in October.  Ansen didn't answer his phone to tell me no and the purchase was made.

(It came with 10% off all purchases in Disney . . . so we really made it worth it.)

 

Saturday we had to do what we came for . . . the Cheer Competition.

Both teams had awesome performances, I found some diet coke and all were happy. 

 

Luckily, both girls were scheduled for the morning so we were on our way back to Disney by 3:00 pm for the night.  

 

Sunday we did our second performance, took a well needed nap, hung out at the hotel and went swimming.
 

 

Olivia's team took home 4th place - I think. 
 

 

and Addie took home a close, close 2nd place.

We also became proficient at the Anaheim Transit System.

 

And Monday we did an open to close day at Disneyland again.

 

And though Ansen has ALWAYS wanted to do this, we did it without him and ate at the restaurant inside the Pirates of the Caribbean. It's a pricey little place and with 5 . . . it was just expensive.  HOWEVER it was sooo good and the meals were so huge we could split, so it will become a Disney "must have" for the future.

 

We drove straight home on Tuesday, tired and done, but happy.

 

Barely Made It

to two events so far this year. 

I had to park in my own made up, "creative" parking place, give the ticket taker guy my wallet as security (because I didn't have time to buy the ticket) and run my (and Drew's) fool head off to make it for Olivia's Festival of the Trees performance. 

It was a close, close call, but I made it. 

  

The second grade at our school decorated and donates a tree every year.  Parents donate money and all the classes make different ornaments.  Then they go on their fieldtrip to see their tree and sing.  It's really cute and they get really excited.

 

And then I made it to the last 5 minutes of the state fair the 5th grade puts on.  I didn't feel as anxious about this one since I had helped put the finishing touches on the project I was going to see the night before.  Really Addie did most of it, I just helped out in the vinyl department.  

Addie decided to do Maine, for obvious reasons.  Grandma and Grandpa Hatch sent her a whole bunch of stuff to help her out.  Pinecones, pictures, flags, pressed leaves, moose things, blueberry jam, a shirt, ear muffs and just a whole bunch of stuff.  They best part was Grandma found maple candies and lobster candies that the kids are still asking Addie for more of. 

Poor thing had to wear her same Maine shirt two days in a row for her presentation since they switched days up on her . . . but she lived.
