The Night Before Christmas . . .

Christmas Eve: Fondue dinner, story of Christ's birth and sugar cookies. We had a new Mary this year and Addie made her big debut as the Angel. This year's Mary wasn't as docile as our old Mary and was a little stingy with who got to see her new baby Jesus, but loved her costume. Our Angel memorized her part and proudly did it twice at the narrator's request. And for the first year in 13 years we were missing our sheep/donkey since Rowdy didn't make it to another Christmas.

Sugar Cookies were taken to a new level. We had a contest for creativity, not for simplicity, not for beauty or for normal, but creativity. Ansen was our un-biased judge since he won't frost. I won scariest, Addison won prettiest, Lisa won most frosting and sprinkles (she even frosted and sprinkled the sides), and Branda won best cookie.

The girls made it to bed at an early time of 11:30 and then we stayed up until 1:30 when the girls woke up again. Olivia had a fever and couldn't get back to sleep. Ansen finally went out in search of Motrin at 3:00, but nothing was opened so he came all the way home to our house and back in the snow. Olivia finally got to sleep around 4:30. As a result Christmas morning didn't start until 10:00 this year (a new record), breakfast at 2:00, naps at 4:30, dinner at 8:00, hot tubing and bed at 10:00.

Sounds like tons of fun! Except for the sick kids on Christmas. What a bummer. Sick kids anytime are the worst. Both of mine are sick right now. And me. Because they cough and wipe their noses on me. Because kids only want their moms when they're sick.
