Iditarod 2012

This has been on my blog before so maybe you know, but my Mom loves the Iditarod Race in Alaska.  I think that she always had an interest, but when they went to visit Lisa while she was working in Alaska, it cemented the love.  She officially announced this year that she as going to Alaska for a race before she dies.

We got an official invite to the party two weeks in advance and it promised "games and prizes."  We've been promised prizes before and they didn't come through so we were all skeptical.

For dinner she made "dog food" for each of us with labels of our favorite dogs and inside our favorite treats . . . isn't she creative.

We made our dog sleds  . . .

Matt's is missing in the picture because he was busy gluing more money to his sled and punching holes in his sail . . . Matt's competitiveness fits right in with this family.

This is Drew and "Black" . . . self named.  He ended up with streamer ribbons after he saw Banna's ribbons and realized he needed some.

and then races . . . my Dad made a race bracket and everything.
(See Matt in the background gluing MORE money on his sled)

And the winner . . . Gallopsie.  Originally I was going to name him Gallop, but then realized "he" was a "she" and added "sie" for a more feminine touch.  This little gal got me first place . . . after an extremely slow start (and my somewhat grumpy attitude about the extended amount of time the races required).

Thanks Mom!  We all have our passions and thank goodness we have some . . . it makes life a little more fun . . .
