It's Go Time

The Birth Story

Friday: I had my regular Dr. appointment and was dilated to a 3 and 50% efaced. Doesn't necessarily mean I'm close, but I had never been that dilated even when I showed up to the hospital to have the baby.

Saturday: I woke up able to breath deeper and realized the baby had dropped . . . again not a sure sign, but another sign.

Sunday: I lost my mucus plug - and cried.

Monday: I hustled to finish everything I possibly could ready for Christmas.  And due to the kindness of the pharmacy tech at Costco got on Heprin so that I was eligible to get an epidural - just in case.

Tuesday:  I woke up at 8 am to my water breaking.  So - we had 24 hours - max.  Banna came over, we took the kids to the dentist, Ansen snow blowed the drive way, I took a shower and we finally decided it was time to head to the hospital . . . no contractions yet.

We checked in thinking we'd have a baby in a few hours and  . . . we were wrong.  Way wrong.

It took 3 hours to get me set up and get my antibiotics done.  Then we hooked me up to the PIT, which since I was going for a vbac had to go VERY slow.

MA showed up and hung out . . . She and Ansen went on a lunch date for an hour . . . while I sat by myself.

Still no contractions.  Jeff came and hung out.  No contractions.

Lisa and Matt stopped in. No contractions.

We had finally gotten the PIT up to 24 and I started feeling what I thought "might be contractions."  Then I didn't think they were contractions, I knew they were contractions.  Finally!

But we were still no where close.  Matt and Lisa left.  I decided to get an epidural and go to sleep.  Ansen wanted an anticipated timeline from the nurse, her best guess.  She thought we still had 5-6 hours.  HOURS!  Bed time.

20 minutes later I realized I could move my foot, actually my leg, actually my whole leg and I started freaking out that my epidural wasn't working . . . plus I was feeling some pressure.

Ummm turned out it was go time.

25 minutes later - we had a perfect little baby girl.
